Old Meets New In A Chance Meeting At Piper Memorial Airport

Above are photos of a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub and a Brand New Piper Meridian M600, the newest, and top-of-the-line aircraft that is being built by Piper Aircraft Inc. in Vero Beach FL.  The J-3 Cub, built here in Lock Haven in 1946, flew in today from Penn Yan, NY and was purchased new in 1946 by the Penn Yan Flying Club.  They still own the airplane to this day.  It has flown over 1 million miles since the club has owned it.  In contrast, the new Piper Meridian M600 costs nearly $2,800,000!!  Mr. Buddy Sessoms of Piper Aircraft Inc., piloted the Meridian M600 into Piper Memorial Airport to visit the Piper Aviation Museum on his way to show the airplane to a Connecticut Piper Distributor.  Mr. James Alexander and Mr. Josh Sharaf, members of the Penn Yan Flying Club, piloted the Piper J-3 Cub into Piper Memorial Airport also to visit the Piper Aviation Museum.  All had lunch at a downtown restaurant.  It was interesting that the "old" and "new" met on our ramp at The William T. Piper Memorial Airport by chance today!
